Lake Long

The warning to wash your gear after fishing there is real-water chestnut is threatening the entire Unami and Perkiomen creek. Says Mike Comfort

Please wash your gear after fishing in this lake. vIt is infested with a highly invasive plant called water chestnut, Trapa natans. Says Anonymous

This lake is called ''Lake Long''. It is located at Delmont Scout Reservation. It was created in 1947 by damming the Unami (until 1917-Swamp) Creek. It was
named in honor of Harvey Long, the first ranger at Camp Delmont. Harvey's family lived in the area for many years. I believe his father fought in the Civil War, in the 28th PA infantry.

The Unami Creek was once the site of
a thriving gun powder industry from about 1776-1900. The surrounding area is now a popular spot for fishing, hiking, cycling, etc. And still retains a pastorial atmosphere, with little change to the landscape from time immemorial.
