| | I was born in Carmel and lived in Monterey from 1944 until we moved to SF in 1954. My Grandfather, Harold J. ''Bud'' Chavoya was an Elks Club Member and we had a family Cabin at White Rock, near the Lake. Some of my fondest memories are from that part of my life when we vacationed there many times. My Grandfather would take me there to hunt Deer and wild Boar and also cut a few Oak Trees to dry, split and use to fuel my Grandfathers Wedgewood stove he had at |
the cabin, and at his home in Monterey. I will never forget the wonderful fragrance of burning oak in the stove when I woke up in the morning as my Grandmother was preparing breakfast! My other, fondest of all experiences there,
| was the time we were there and it snowed so much that we were snowbound for almost 5 days. It was absolutely wonderful as we used some snow sleds, that were at the cabin, and played all day long in the snow instead of going to school that week. I remember the man and his wife that manned the gate on the way up to White Rock Lake and knew it wouldn't be long before we arrived at the cabin. I don't have any photos left at this point in my life, but certainly many | |
