Hello to anyone who remembers Mayo Beach 'back when'. I lived on Pine Avenue from 1967 to 1968. Mayo was such a fun place to 'hang out.' I loved the dancing at the pavilion at Mayo Beach. Thank you for the photo of the band performing. I remember dancing to 'Soul Finger' in the summer of '67. Could it have been the original Bar-Kays playing at Mayo Beach before the terrible plane crash later that year? I remember standing at the bus stop on Rt. 214 for Annapolis
Junior High School and being sad about the news that Otis Redding had died. When he sang, ''(Sittin'On) The Dock of the Bay'', I thought he was singing about the Chesapeake Bay. Says Shellie Lewis

Mayo Beach is not open to
the general public at any time. Rental of the Park is through Anne Arrundel County Department of Recreation and Parks. Adaptive Camp for youth of all abilities is held July and early August. There is no car access other than for events. Cars parked outside the park are subject to ticketing and fines. Watch the Recreation web page for community events. www.aacounty.org/recparks Says Wendy

In 1964-65 my band the Chauntels played the Mayo Beach dances during

the summer. What great memories. I would like to locate any photo's of The Chauntels band that were taken at that time. I have one taken with me and one of our fans. Says Ned OByrne

I just read an article on the degradation
of the Chesapeake Bay and the declining population of the blue crab. As a teenager growing up in Silver Spring, MD, we spent many weekends at Mayo Beach. We had close friends who had a weekend home on the bay at Mayo Beach and we spent countless hours on their small boat dock dangling chicken necks tied onto lines and lowered into the water to capture the blue crabs. Once the crabs started feeding on the chicken necks, we would slowly pull the lines up and
take a hand held net and capture them. The reward from this activity was a pot full of delicious, steamed blue crabs for dinner. It sounds like those times are gone! Says Sam Steel

I took my grandchildren to Mayo Beach Park two weekends ago upon reading the input by ''jovet'' above, that, ''Mayo Beach (Park?)is not open to the public ordinarily. In the summer, you can enter on Sunday afternoon. I found the public park NOT open that Sunday afternoon. Please tell me when it is best to chance getting into the park without the fanfair booking for parties. I am a resident of Anne Arundel County. Says Peter T. Kou
