Karpathos
Karpathos is a long and narrow island with many different faces. The southern part of the island is low with gentle hills and sandy beaches. The middle southern part of the island, is marked with low stony mountains.

Pindos mountains
The Pindos Mountains are located in the North West corner of mainland Greece, running across the border into Albania.

The Vikos-Aoos National Park is 12.000 ha in size and it is located in the North-Western tip of the Pindos mountain range. It includes the Aoos ravine, the Vikos gorge and the Mt. Tymfi (Gamila). The Aoos ravine and the Vikos gorge mark the boundaries that roughly encompass Western Zagoria and parts of Central Zagoria. The forests of the national park are remnants of the ancient European forest and are comprised of mixed forest with the widest diversity of highland trees in all of Europe. The low mountain slopes are rich on bushes: holm-oaks and arbutus. Between altitudes of 700-1800 meters there are beech, maple, Silver Lime and several kinds of pine and fir trees. Black Pine being one of the rarest pines in Europe. In over 1800 meters the grasslands and Balkan pines dominate and some extremely and rare endemic species of flowers. Generally there are many wild and rare flora, especially flowers in the Vikos-Aoos National Park. Some 1800 different flora species have been calculated from this specific area. Popular destinations and sights of the national park includes Gamila's hiking routes the Aoos ravine in which there are possibilities of trekking and other outdoor activities such as white water rafting and cayaking. The source of Aoos river is the Aoos Spring Lake close to Metsovo village. The lake is harnessed artificially for electricity production. Metsovo's ski center is close by and as a matter of fact the cross country skiing trails go around the lake in the winter. The Aoos river flows west through the Mt. Gamila (Tymfi) and Smolikas and the plain of Konitsa all the way to Albania and finally into the Adriatic Sea.
