What to do in the wilderness in the Heart of Finland 
The region offers a wide variety of hiking options. Ideal destinations include Rokua National Park, Manamansalo island and Lake Saarijärvi, in Puolanka. Canoeists will find plenty of alternative routes stretching right down to the sea. The R.Kiiminkijoki and R.Kutujoki waterway in Vaala have a comprehensive network of resting places. For boat visitors there are many boat harbours on L.Oulujärvi, in addition to resting places on the islands.

Hiking Trails: Nordkalottleden
Nordkalottleden is a hiking trail of 800 km total lenght, starting in Norway, passing through Sweden and Finland and ending in Norway again. It touches Treriksröset, where the borders of the three countries have one point in common. Conditions along the trail are varying greatly. On some of the sections cabins are available where provisions are sold, on other parts you have to carry all provisions and stay in a tent.
