A tour to close by Tete Du Pont is very relaxing, and Kingman Lake is not far at all from Washington-Arlington-Alexandria. This lake is so wonderful. Good hiking is available along the Valley Trail, and for you golfers we recommend nearby Greendale Golf Course. Federal Spring is always fun to check out, and Kingman Lake is nice enough to spend more than a day at, Cherry Hill Park is a nice local campground. High temperatures at Kingman Lake all through the months of summer are in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 60's. spree to Piney Run while you're here. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites WASHINGTON NE-NATL ARBORETUM is a glorious choice; Anacostia River - Northwest Branch is a good whitewater
spot close by. Go for a hike on the Rock Creek Park Bike Trail. If the weather is delightful, you acquire a fine sight of Good Hope Hill from Kingman Lake; there's good hiking along the Swamp Trail. A glorious place for whitewater
paddling near Kingman Lake is Anacostia River, and if you've had enough of Kingman Lake, Capitol Reflecting Pool is nearby.

 | I often take my kids to the park at Greenbelt Lake. The playground is very big and they have a ton of fun. There are things there suitable for all kids ages. We also go around the lake, me running and them riding thier bikes. the trail and lake are beautiful and shaded - which is wonderful during the hot days in the summer.... |

Burba Lake

A well-maintained path runs around the entire lake where you can normally find soldiers, retirees and their families out for a stroll or a leisurely run. We can all thank the tightening of security due to terrorism for making the lake's having less access. You must have proper ID (Government/Military issued ID) to enter the post, unless it is pre-arranged such as for family reunions and such. The Ft. Meade MWR people take good care of the lake and it's surroundings and nature teems. You will normally find ducks and geese swimming in the lake, some have made it their home. Migratory birds also have put this lake on their itinerary! There is fishing in the lake and also a healthy turtle population. Beavers also have taken up residence in one area and by some of the ''missing'' trees you can tell that they have been there. There is also a resident blue heron that can often be found on the shore of the lake or amongst the greenery on the little island in the middle. All in all, though I'm not a great writer...this is a wonderful and serene place that I alw... |
