All year is a great time in the Wind River Range if you love the outdoors. Good hiking is available along the Hay Pass Trail, and if you need a spot to stay Best Western Pinedale Inn is a fine choice. During the summertime months highs here at Lake Victor get into the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 40's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 20's, and night lows in the-10's for Lake Victor. So many cool things to do here

| | in the Wind River Range, too perfect to be true. Camping is available at Boulder Campground, and Pole Creek is a good whitewater spot nearby.
This lake is so wonderful. A wonderful place to camp here at Lake Victor is Scab Creek Campground; there's great hiking along the Europe Canyon Trail. Lake Victor is a location that is rather dehydrated generally; the wettest month of the year is typically May, that's the one
that rains the most, and February meanwhile is the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. A splendid spot to go to close to Lake Victor is Europe Canyon, and from Lake Victor you get a splendid view of North Fork Peak.
Hiking
is a popular thing to do around Lake Victor; Lake Isabella Trail is a nice local trail; a lake close by is North Fork Lake.

Hay Pass Trail
 | I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?... |
Scab Lake Trail
| scab lake trail is not one for the weak, it is a hard climb with outstanding rewards of beauty & huge high powered brilliantly colored brook trout up to 6 lbs that we know of in scab lake! oh almost forgot the last time I went was July 5 it snowed at scab 18 plus inches, I hope that I remembered to tell that the 11 mile trail to the scab lake is a hard hard climb, I have only made it 3 times to the lake thanks Allen Eagle concrete worker & stock car racer Jackson Hole... |

I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork.... |
