If you are in this part of Wyoming make sure to pay a visit to Lake Victor. This lake is so wonderful. At Lake Victor through the warm days of summer highs are in the 70's. Summer night lows descend down to the 40's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the-10's to Lake Victor. Just can't get enough of the Wind River Range. Why not camp at Boulder Campground while you're here at Lake Victor, and at Lake Victor you

Lake Victor beyond doubt is in the middle of a pretty outdoors paradise. A pleasant site to camp here at Lake Victor is Scab Creek Campground, and get covered with water paddling on Boulder Creek. Good hiking is available along the Europe Canyon Trail; soar down the rapids of Pole Creek in a kayak. There's good hiking along the Lake Isabella Trail, and dry warm beds await you at Best Western Pinedale Inn.

not enough there's lots more entertaining stuff to do in the Wind River Range. Near Lake Victor you find magnificent sites like Europe Canyon, and you'll hit upon a stunning lake called North Fork Lake. This lake is located in the
wonderful Wind River Range. This lake is so wonderful. Don't leave Lake Victor without first going for a hike along the Hay Pass Trail, and do have a look at August Lake, it's a lovely lake.
Not much rain falls here at Lake Victor; May is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month is February.

Hay Pass Trail
 | I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?... |
Scab Lake Trail
| scab lake trail is not one for the weak, it is a hard climb with outstanding rewards of beauty & huge high powered brilliantly colored brook trout up to 6 lbs that we know of in scab lake! oh almost forgot the last time I went was July 5 it snowed at scab 18 plus inches, I hope that I remembered to tell that the 11 mile trail to the scab lake is a hard hard climb, I have only made it 3 times to the lake thanks Allen Eagle concrete worker & stock car racer Jackson Hole... |

I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork.... |
