Lake Vera is a very beautiful lake in beautiful surroundings. For the period of the summertime months at Lake Vera highs are generally in the 70's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 40's. For the duration of the wintertime highs are mostly in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Lake Vera are in the-10's. At Lake Vera you don’t see much rain; during May this area sees the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture. All year is

| | a magnificent time in the Wind River Range if you adore the outdoors. The Lake Isabella Trail offers hiking at its best. There's so much to do here at Lake Vera that you need to camp here for a while, Scab Creek Campground is a delightful spot for that.

Western Pinedale Inn is a good place to spend a night or two. There are some good whitewater spots on Pole Creek; Lake Vera is right by the Firehole Trail. Life's too short to enjoy all the fun things in the Wind River Range.
Hiking along the Boulder Canyon Trail is delightful fun; a lake nearby is Lake Isabella. This lake is so wonderful. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Boulder Creek, and Lake Winona is a nearby lake that you could explore. Lake Vera is a beautiful lake in the Wind River Range.

Hay Pass Trail
 | I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?... |
Scab Lake Trail
| scab lake trail is not one for the weak, it is a hard climb with outstanding rewards of beauty & huge high powered brilliantly colored brook trout up to 6 lbs that we know of in scab lake! oh almost forgot the last time I went was July 5 it snowed at scab 18 plus inches, I hope that I remembered to tell that the 11 mile trail to the scab lake is a hard hard climb, I have only made it 3 times to the lake thanks Allen Eagle concrete worker & stock car racer Jackson Hole... |

I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork.... |
