A visit to Toboggan Lake is always a good idea. You clearly should love the Wind River Range. A tremendous nearby hotel is Best Western Pinedale Inn, and whitewater paddling is great on Pole Creek. Man, is there heaps of exciting stuff to do in the Wind River Range. Toboggan Lake is right by the Sage Basin Trail. Be careful coming to Toboggan Lake, you might not ever wanna return back home again. The Scab Sage Trail offers hiking at its best. Lakes? Sure,

| | Three Elk Lake is close at hand.
This lake is located in the wonderful Wind River Range. This lake is so wonderful. A splendid site to camp here at Toboggan Lake is Boulder Campground, and do take a hike on the Scab Lake Trail. At Toboggan Lake throughout the summertime highs are in the 70's, and through the night it cools down to the 40's. Lake plunge into the-10's.
If you don't mind getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Boulder Creek; since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always go to close by Pine Island Lake. You can take a little
tour to Divide Dam while you're here at Toboggan Lake; camping at Scab Creek Campground is always a great experience. Toboggan Lake is a location that is relatively dehydrated ordinarily; May is the month that gets the most rain; February is when it's the driest.

Scab Lake Trail
 | scab lake trail is not one for the weak, it is a hard climb with outstanding rewards of beauty & huge high powered brilliantly colored brook trout up to 6 lbs that we know of in scab lake! oh almost forgot the last time I went was July 5 it snowed at scab 18 plus inches, I hope that I remembered to tell that the 11 mile trail to the scab lake is a hard hard climb, I have only made it 3 times to the lake thanks Allen Eagle concrete worker & stock car racer Jackson Hole... |
Hay Pass Trail
| I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?... |

I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork.... |
