Beautiful Lake Susan has much to offer visitors. For the period of the months of summer here at Lake Susan, high temperatures usually get into the 70's while nighttime lows are mostly in the 40's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Lake Susan temperatures plunge to the-10's. That right there is a load of cool stuff already but it goes on, the Wind River Range has it all. If you came to camp Scab Creek Campground
| | | |
| | is a brilliant location to do that; the sight of pretty Halls Butte is delightful. This lake is so wonderful. This lake is so wonderful. Lake Susan is tremendous enough to spend more than a day at, Boulder Campground is a tremendous local campground; some of the water nearby flows, like Halls Creek. Lake Susan is a location that is reasonably waterless mostly; throughout the month of May you get the most rain around here, and February is when it's the driest. | |

So much fun stuff to do at Lake Susan, so little time. The Europe Canyon Trail is a tremendous hiking trail next to Lake Susan, and dry warm beds await you at Best Western Pinedale Inn. Be careful coming to the Wind River Range,
you might not ever wanna go back home again. On a splendid day at Lake Susan you can take a hike along the Firehole Trail; lakes are such peaceful spots, why not explore Fire Hole Lakes. If the weather is great here at Lake Susan,
you can go for a hike along the Lake Isabella Trail, and if you don't mind getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Bull Lake Creek. Boulder Creek is a good whitewater spot close to Lake Susan, and a delightful lake like Wilderness Lake is a fine spot to explore. Lake Susan is located in the Wind River Range.

Hay Pass Trail
 | I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?... |
Scab Lake Trail
 | scab lake trail is not one for the weak, it is a hard climb with outstanding rewards of beauty & huge high powered brilliantly colored brook trout up to 6 lbs that we know of in scab lake! oh almost forgot the last time I went was July 5 it snowed at scab 18 plus inches, I hope that I remembered to tell that the 11 mile trail to the scab lake is a hard hard climb, I have only made it 3 times to the lake thanks Allen Eagle concrete worker & stock car racer Jackson Hole... |
Ice Lakes
 | 1 PHOTO I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork.... |
Sonnicant Lake
 | 10 miles away Lake is centraly located in the saint lawrence basin lakes. Good views, makina (lake)trout mostly, easy 9 hour hike.... |
Suicide Lake
 | 16 miles away Had some excellent fishing for brook & cutthroat trout at Suicide Lake in August '05. The fishing was so hot I caught 2 at once.... |
Triangle Lake
 | 19 miles away This lake is almost impossible to get to. I have been within two miles of the lake and can't get to it because of the dangers that surround it. There are cliffs and the trail to the lake is a slippery waterfall.... |
