Star Lake is pretty arid ordinarily; May is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is February. This lake is so wonderful. Star Lake is right by the Lowline Trail, and get drenched paddling on Pole Creek. Getting to Star Creek from Star Lake is simple; hiking along the Sage Basin Trail is magnificent fun.
At Divide Dam in the neighborhood of Star Lake there are some out of the ordinary things to see; a tremendous close by hotel

You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors fun things the Wind River Range has to offer. Going for a hike along the Chilcoot Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region; there are other locations here than Star Lake, for example Divide Reservoir. Whohoo, so many exciting things in one place! The Wind River Range is peerless! | |

Star Lake is nice enough to spend more than a day at, Scab Creek Campground is a nice local campground, and whitewater paddling is perfect on Boulder Creek. If you want a brilliant time in the great outdoors, just come on down to
Star Lake. Camping at Boulder Campground is always a wonderful experience. Lakes? Sure, Monroe Lake is in close proximity.
At Star Lake through the days of summer highs are in the 70's with nighttime lows in the 40's. The cold
days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Star Lake dip into the-10's.

Scab Lake Trail
 | scab lake trail is not one for the weak, it is a hard climb with outstanding rewards of beauty & huge high powered brilliantly colored brook trout up to 6 lbs that we know of in scab lake! oh almost forgot the last time I went was July 5 it snowed at scab 18 plus inches, I hope that I remembered to tell that the 11 mile trail to the scab lake is a hard hard climb, I have only made it 3 times to the lake thanks Allen Eagle concrete worker & stock car racer Jackson Hole... |
Hay Pass Trail
| I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?... |

I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork.... |
