What a nice lake South Fork Lake is. This lake is one of the great places here in the Wind River Range. So much enjoyable stuff to do at South Fork Lake, so little time. After a long day outdoors Best Western Pinedale Inn is a magnificent place to spend a night or two; in the event that you don’t have a problem getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Bull Lake Creek. This location, the Wind River Range, has so much outdoors fun things.

| | Don't leave South Fork Lake without first going for a hike along the Scab Creek Trail, and while you're here, you could stop at Dream Creek. There's great hiking along the Dream Lake Trail, and you're probably into lakes, Upper Sylvan Lake is one of those nearby. Summertime brings highs in the 70's to South Fork Lake. Summer night lows sink down to the 40's. All through the winter the highs are ordinarily in the 20's, and nighttime lows through the winter | |

for South Fork Lake tend to be in the-10's. So much cool stuff to do in the Wind River Range, not enough time. South Fork Lake is a tremendous site to visit for more than one day, Big Sandy Campground is a tremendous site to camp
nearby, and if you've had enough of South Fork Lake, Dream Lake is nearby. South Fork Lake is a location that is relatively dried up generally; most of the rain falls through May while February is mostly the driest month. This lake
is so wonderful. The Sylvan Lake Trail offers hiking at its best, and Scab Creek Campground is a nice campground nearby.

Ice Lakes
1 PHOTO I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork....
Sonnicant Lake
Lake is centraly located in the saint lawrence basin lakes. Good views, makina (lake)trout mostly, easy 9 hour hike....
Scab Lake Trail
scab lake trail is not one for the weak, it is a hard climb with outstanding rewards of beauty & huge high powered brilliantly colored brook trout up to 6 lbs that we know of in scab lake! oh almost forgot the last time I went was July 5 it snowed at scab 18 plus inches, I hope that I remembered to tell that the 11 mile trail to the scab lake is a hard hard climb, I have only made it 3 times to the lake thanks Allen Eagle concrete worker & stock car racer Jackson Hole...
Hay Pass Trail
I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?...
Papoose Lake
17 miles away Lake seemed fishless although a beautiful lake. Was there 2 days and only saw 1 rise. Nice place to camp though as there is low traffic. Make sure you follow outlet to avoid massive rock pile....
