A visit to Scab Lake is always a good idea. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Scab Lake. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 40's. For the period of the winter the highs are frequently in the 20's; winter nights come with lows in the-10's to Scab Lake. And if that's not sufficient there's lots more amusing stuff to do in the Wind River Range. Boulder Campground is a delightful local campground; on a magnificent
day you can take a hike along the Sage Basin Trail. This lake is so wonderful. Best Western Pinedale Inn is a splendid place to get some rest, and the Scab Sage Trail is a good hiking trail nearby.
This lake is so wonderful. Looking for some flowing water? Try Monroe Creek, and Boulder Creek is a glorious whitewater spot close by. Any time is a glorious time at Scab Lake if you like the outdoors. Why not visit Divide Dam if you're here, and in the event that

you don’t have a problem getting drenched, you can always go whitewater paddling on Pole Creek.
Scab Lake is generally a pretty waterless site; the month with most of the rain is May, and the driest month is February. Now, you may assume that's a lot but there's even more amusing stuff to do here in the Wind River Range. Nearby lakes? Sure, Divide Reservoir is near Scab Lake; if you've had enough of Scab Lake, Toboggan Lake is close by. If you came for an overnight stay Scab Creek Campground is a brilliant location to camp; there is a splendid hiking trail close by called the Lowline Trail.
Scab Lake is one of the lakes here in the Wind River Range.

Scab Lake Trail
scab lake trail is not one for the weak, it is a hard climb with outstanding rewards of beauty & huge high powered brilliantly colored brook trout up to 6 lbs that we know of in scab lake! oh almost forgot the last time I went was July 5 it snowed at scab 18 plus inches, I hope that I remembered to tell that the 11 mile trail to the scab lake is a hard hard climb, I have only made it 3 times to the lake thanks Allen Eagle concrete worker & stock car racer Jackson Hole...

Hay Pass Trail
I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?...

I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork....

Sonnicant Lake

Lake is centraly located in the saint lawrence basin lakes. Good views, makina (lake)trout mostly, easy 9 hour hike....

Suicide Lake
18 miles away
Had some excellent fishing for brook & cutthroat trout at Suicide Lake in August '05. The fishing was so hot I caught 2 at once....
