Going for a hike on the Dream Lake Trail is always a wonderful adventure; a lake close by is Middle Fork Lake. Throughout the warm days of summer here at Rainbow Lake, high temperatures mostly reach the 70's. Summer overnight lows sink down to the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 20's; nighttime lows at Rainbow Lake throughout the winter ordinarily descend into the-10's. The Wind River Range scenery is always beautiful.
Rainbow Lake is pretty

dry mostly; May is the wettest month with most rain, and February on the other hand is the driest. Whohoo, so much amusing stuff in one place! The Wind River Range is excellent! The Middle Fork Trail is a great hiking trail near Rainbow Lake, and Sunrise Lake is a nearby lake that you could have a look at. If you need a spot to stay Best Western Pinedale Inn is a splendid choice; if you came to camp Big Sandy Campground is a pleasant place to do that.

You just can't picture the amount of outdoors amusing things the Wind River Range has to offer. This lake is so wonderful. There is a wonderful hiking trail in close proximity to Rainbow Lake called the Halls Lake Trail, and Dragon Head Peak is clearly visible from Rainbow Lake. And that's not all you can do here at Rainbow Lake. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Bull Lake Creek. There's so much to do here at Rainbow Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Scab Creek Campground is a brilliant place for that.

I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork....

Sonnicant Lake
Lake is centraly located in the saint lawrence basin lakes. Good views, makina (lake)trout mostly, easy 9 hour hike....

Hay Pass Trail
I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?...

Bears Ears Trail
The Bears Ears trail is superb. My Sierra Club crew did a lot of trail work here near Mt. Chavenet, and built the replacement Moss Creek footbridge. The Washakie Ranger group are great!...

Papoose Lake
16 miles away
Lake seemed fishless although a beautiful lake. Was there 2 days and only saw 1 rise. Nice place to camp though as there is low traffic. Make sure you follow outlet to avoid massive rock pile....
