Hay Pass Trail
13 miles away I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?...
Ross Lake Trail
14 miles away In four days four of us caught 13 fish over 20 inches and 27 fish overall, none of which were less than 14 inches. Campsites are plentiful and established. Great views of other mountain lakes beautiful sunsets and sunrises. The trail is very nice and well marked the entire way. All the climbing is worth every minute once you see the lake....Ross Lake wasn't worth the trip. Horrible fishing and rough trail. I'd recommend other destinations over Ross Lake. Lots of the forest in the area has burned and is not very scenic....
Suicide Lake
17 miles away Had some excellent fishing for brook & cutthroat trout at Suicide Lake in August '05. The fishing was so hot I caught 2 at once....
Sonnicant Lake
18 miles away Lake is centraly located in the saint lawrence basin lakes. Good views, makina (lake)trout mostly, easy 9 hour hike....
Triangle Lake
19 miles away This lake is almost impossible to get to. I have been within two miles of the lake and can't get to it because of the dangers that surround it. There are cliffs and the trail to the lake is a slippery waterfall....
Ice Lakes
19 miles away 1 PHOTO I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork....
