A splendid place to camp here at Lake Nelson is Upper Half Moon Campground, and if you're here why not explore Lester Pass. Lake Nelson is pretty waterless frequently; the month of June is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest of the months is February. This lake is so wonderful. | | Nelson is trouble-free. So much amusing stuff to do in the Wind River Range, not enough time. Going for a hike along the Cook Lake Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood; get dripping wet paddling on Boulder Creek. Since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always go to nearby Tommy Lake; if the weather is pleasant, you can go for a hike along the Seneca Lake Trail. Suicide Lake
Had some excellent fishing for brook & cutthroat trout at Suicide Lake in August '05. The fishing was so hot I caught 2 at once....
Triangle Lake
This lake is almost impossible to get to. I have been within two miles of the lake and can't get to it because of the dangers that surround it. There are cliffs and the trail to the lake is a slippery waterfall....
Hay Pass Trail
I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?...
Double Lake
14 miles away Fish it with royal wolfs being stipped on top of the water, big cuttthroats will slam it...
