If you like lakes and you're in this part of Wyoming you can check out Mud Lake. Mud Lake is a location that is pretty arid regularly; most of the rain falls during June while February is ordinarily the driest month. If only every spot had this much outdoors cool stuff, what a great planet it would be. Lakes? Sure, Dinwoody Lake is in close proximity, and Super 8 Motel - Dubois is a pleasant location to get some rest. After a long day outdoors Best Western

| | Pinedale Inn is a pleasant location to spend a night or two. Longhorn RV & Motel is a magnificent campground nearby, and Mud Lake is right by the Dry Creek Trail. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Mud Lake while night lows are typically in the 40's. Through the winter highs are in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Mud Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Not far from Mud Lake, you'll come across Upper Dinwoody Lake | |

Double Lake
 | 10 miles away Fish it with royal wolfs being stipped on top of the water, big cuttthroats will slam it... |
Ross Lake Trail
 | 15 miles away In four days four of us caught 13 fish over 20 inches and 27 fish overall, none of which were less than 14 inches. Campsites are plentiful and established. Great views of other mountain lakes beautiful sunsets and sunrises. The trail is very nice and well marked the entire way. All the climbing is worth every minute once you see the lake....Ross Lake wasn't worth the trip. Horrible fishing and rough trail. I'd recommend other destinations over Ross Lake. Lots of the forest in the area has burned and is not very scenic.... |
Hay Pass Trail
 | 19 miles away I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?... |
