A visit to Moose Lake is always a good idea. Yep, outdoors amusing stuff truly is plentiful here in the Wind River Range. Get covered with water paddling on Bull Lake Creek. Moose Lake is located in the Wind River Range. So many amusing things near Moose Lake, truly extraordinary. Why not camp at Circle Up Camper Court Shop since you're here at Moose Lake, and if the weather is good, you can go for a hike along the Dry Creek Trail.
This lake is so wonderful.

| | Whitewater paddling is good on Wind River. Lakes? Sure, Grassy Lake is around here. Camping is available at Longhorn RV & Motel; not far from Moose Lake you'll discover Native Lake which is a picturesque lake. Near Moose Lake you find the Dinwoody Trail which is a brilliant hiking trail, and Best Western Pinedale Inn is a pleasant place to get some rest.

of the months is February. There's no way anyone can get bored here in the Wind River Range. The Ink Wells Trail is a great hiking trail near Moose Lake; if you need a place to stay Super 8 Motel - Dubois is a delightful choice. Summertime
brings highs in the 80's to Moose Lake. For the period of the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 40's. Through the winter highs are in the 30's, and nighttime lows in the 10's for Moose Lake.

Hay Pass Trail

I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?... |
Ross Lake Trail

In four days four of us caught 13 fish over 20 inches and 27 fish overall, none of which were less than 14 inches. Campsites are plentiful and established. Great views of other mountain lakes beautiful sunsets and sunrises. The trail is very nice and well marked the entire way. All the climbing is worth every minute once you see the lake....Ross Lake wasn't worth the trip. Horrible fishing and rough trail. I'd recommend other destinations over Ross Lake. Lots of the forest in the area has burned and is not very scenic.... |
