If you are in this part of Wyoming make sure to pay a visit to Monroe Lake. At Monroe Lake you don’t see much precipitation; May is when you get the most rain here, and February is when it's the driest. Man, is there lots of enjoyable things to do near Monroe Lake. Star Lake is a nearby lake that you could go to; great water scenery is available at Divide Dam right next door to Monroe Lake. There's so much to do here at Monroe Lake that you need to camp here for

| | a while, Boulder Campground is a nice spot for that, and if you come at the right time of year, Pole Creek offers some delightful whitewater.
This lake is so wonderful. Middle Fork Boulder Creek is a stream that you may encounter while here, and get yourself into a kayak and hit Boulder Creek. This lake is so wonderful. temperatures descend down into the 40's. Daytime highs all through the winter are in the 20's; night lows through the winter for Monroe Lake tend to be in the-10's.
If you like the outdoors you'll like it here in the Wind River
Range. A lake close by is Divide Reservoir; if the weather is delightful, you can go for a hike along the Sage Basin Trail. You'll truly wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting things in the Wind River Range. You'll
need more than a day to discover everything Monroe Lake has to offer, you can camp at Scab Creek Campground, and going for a hike along the Lowline Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this neighborhood. This lake is located
in the wonderful Wind River Range.

Scab Lake Trail
 | scab lake trail is not one for the weak, it is a hard climb with outstanding rewards of beauty & huge high powered brilliantly colored brook trout up to 6 lbs that we know of in scab lake! oh almost forgot the last time I went was July 5 it snowed at scab 18 plus inches, I hope that I remembered to tell that the 11 mile trail to the scab lake is a hard hard climb, I have only made it 3 times to the lake thanks Allen Eagle concrete worker & stock car racer Jackson Hole... |
Hay Pass Trail
| I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?... |

I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork.... |
