If you don't mind getting wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Bull Lake Creek, and if you need a place to stay Best Western Pinedale Inn is a fine choice. Milky Lakes is usually a relatively dried out site; June is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is February. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Milky Lakes. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 40's. During the winter highs are in the 30's while the cold winter nights

This lake is so wonderful. There is a great hiking trail next to Milky Lakes called the Europe Canyon Trail, and do pop by Glacier Lake, it's a picturesque lake. Milky Lakes is one of the lakes here in the Wind River Range. If you want a perfect time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Wind River Range.

Trail is always a good adventure, and Milky Lakes is pleasant enough to spend more than a day at, Boulder Campground is a pleasant local campground. Be careful coming to Milky Lakes, you might not ever want to go home again. Take
a little journey to Milky Creek while you're here at Milky Lakes. There's so much to do here at Milky Lakes that you need to camp here for a while, Scab Creek Campground is a perfect place for that. There are brilliant locations to look at along the Firehole Trail, and Long Lake is a nearby lake that you could explore.

Hay Pass Trail
 | I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?... |

I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork.... |
