While you're here at Massae Reservoir you can take a hike along the Bear River Smiths Fork Trail; Bear River Campground is a tremendous local campground. All the outdoors exciting things near Massae Reservoir will keep you coming back many times. If you don’t have a problem getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Blacks Fork - West Fork; Massae Reservoir is not far at all from Evanston.

at Massae Reservoir get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 40's. Highs during the winter are ordinarily in the 30's, and night lows through the wintertime for Massae Reservoir tend to be in the 0's. Massae Dam
is worth going to since you're here; the Notch Mountain Trail is a splendid hiking trail close by.
You'll stumble on a delightful lake called Heber Reservoir near Massae Reservoir, and you can see Lone Mountain from Massae Reservoir.
Around Massae Reservoir you don’t get a lot of precipitation; September is the month that gets the most rain; the driest of the months is January.

The U.S. Forrest Service last attention to this trail was in 1994/1995 and the trail markings in many places is all but non-existent. Portions of the trail---particularly in the meadows areas have been overgrown and rock cairn markers, where they do exist, are often overgrown and difficult to find. Do not attempt this trail without detailed terrain maps and GPS equipment and the ability to use both. It would also be a good idea to carry a satellite phone (rentals are available) as there is no cell phone signal anywhere along the route from the Mirror Lake trailhead on the West all the way to the Chepeta lake trailhead on the East... |

Lake Marion is a very small lake or pond located North of Trial Lake and South West of Star Lake. My friend Victor Montoya and I visited Lake Marion and caught wild Brook Trout and Golden Trout fly fishing. I was surprised that this lake which is very very small had trout over 12 inches.... |

I disagree with below.
1. Thompson Lake isn't even close to the most remote lake in the Uinta Mountains. For example, lakes like East Slide Lake and Wild Goose Lake are far more remote.
2. The boulderhopping really isn't that bad. It's well worth the trip.
3. There are some nice campsites just east of the lake.
Thompson Lake is off trail, but it's one of the more popular off-trail lakes (but far less popular than trailed lakes!) and well worth the trip....This is the most remote lake in all of the Uinta mountains. It's a hellish 1-2hr boulder-hopping steep hike to get to the lake with NO trails or places to camp. Reserved for only extreme mountaineers.... |
