Ice Lakes

 Larry,

Contrary to your belief's... The WYGF halted the Golden Trout stocking program in 1995 because their wild brood stock source was lost from the effects of a 1988 fire in that particular area. The G&F found a new source for Golden Trout eggs and their golden trout stocking program is back and running. Says Anonymous

There's no way somebody can get bored here in the Wind River Range. Going to Shoshone National Forest in close proximity to
Ice Lakes is a magnificent thing to do, and there are good places to discover along the Fremont Trail. This lake is so wonderful. You get a perfect panorama of Baily Peak from Ice Lakes, and while you're here, you could also stop at picturesque Sonnicant Lake.

I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork. - larry dolence
