High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 30's with temperatures at Horseshoe Lake dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. Don't leave Horseshoe Lake without first going for a hike along the Dinwoody Trail, and Horseshoe Lake is glorious enough to spend more than a day at, Circle Up Camper Court Shop
is a glorious local campground. It is very dried out here at Horseshoe Lake ordinarily; the month with most of the rain is June, and the driest month is February.
You truly must have a thing about Horseshoe Lake. A pleasant spree to Hays Park is a great way to spend an afternoon, and naturally, this is a magnificent area for folks who like lakes, Phillips Lake is a lake close by. Horseshoe Lake is one of the lakes here in the Wind River Range. This lake is

so wonderful. Going for a hike on the Dry Creek Trail is always a brilliant adventure, and drift down the rapids of Wind River in a kayak.
Just can't get enough of the Wind River Range. Lakes are good; Grassy Lake is a lake that's next to Horseshoe Lake. There's so much to do here at Horseshoe Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Longhorn RV & Motel is a great location for that, and if you come at the right time of year, Bull Lake Creek offers some tremendous whitewater. And that's not all the things to do here in the Wind River Range. Go for a hike on the Ink Wells Trail, and Super 8 Dubois is a glorious place to get some rest.

Hay Pass Trail
13 miles away
I backpacked over Hay Pass (from Boulder Lake Trailhead to to Golden Lakes) last July 25. Easy ascent to pass except for stream crossings, trail gets faint for about 1/4 mi.above Dennis Lake (quite a view down to the lake. At the outlet of the unnamed lake (Beth Lake???) below the pass on the west side (at head of North Fk Boulder Cr.) water was high & swift, so I routed eastward around to the head of the lake crossing 2 inlet streams where they braid apart. through thick willows- a slow deal, but better than hip-deep swift water at the outlet. Great cutthroat fishing at Victor Lake (on fish to 19) during a hail storm. Guess the fish thought the hail was a swarm of bugs. Saw nobody else from Victor lk. to Golden Lks and back (3 days). Not the most spectacular scenery in the range (peaks are mostly round-topped, not like the jagged peaks to the north or south), but no people and great fishing (Golden Lakes had lots of 14 goldens but they were not biting- typical of goldens). Going in again this July, only farther this time, north of Golden Lakes. Anybody going that way?...

Ross Lake Trail
15 miles away
In four days four of us caught 13 fish over 20 inches and 27 fish overall, none of which were less than 14 inches.  Campsites are plentiful and established.  Great views of other mountain lakes beautiful sunsets and sunrises. The trail is very nice and well marked the entire way. All the climbing is worth every minute once you see the lake....Ross Lake wasn't worth the trip. Horrible fishing and rough trail. I'd recommend other destinations over Ross Lake. Lots of the forest in the area has burned and is not very scenic....

Sonnicant Lake
18 miles away
Lake is centraly located in the saint lawrence basin lakes. Good views, makina (lake)trout mostly, easy 9 hour hike....

Suicide Lake
18 miles away
Had some excellent fishing for brook & cutthroat trout at Suicide Lake in August '05. The fishing was so hot I caught 2 at once....

I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork....
