I was told by my Grandmother (Olive Bentley) that this lake was named for her father Gustave States, the owner of the Canyon Ranch. He had homesteaded Sinks Canyon and the surrounding area, where my grandmother remained until just prior to her death in 1976 at the age of 96.

Why not stop by Gustave Lake if you're passing through these parts. This lake is one of the great places here in the Wind River Range. Christina Dam is worth stopping at if you're here, and brilliant hiking is available along the Louis Lake Trail. You definitely ought to adore the Wind River Range. Glide down the rapids of Middle Popo Agie River in a kayak, and Rodeway Inn Pronghorn Lodge is a fine site to get some rest.

someone from Riverton, and don't leave Gustave Lake without first going for a hike along the Sioux Pass Trail.
There's so much to do here at Gustave Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Popo Agie Campground is a nice spot
for that, and there are great places to discover along the Christina Lake Trail. Man, is there a lot of amusing things to do in the Wind River Range. Dry warm beds await you at Best Western Inn At Lander. Not much rain falls here at Gustave Lake; May is the wettest month with most rain; the driest of the months is January.
