    Many people like to go to Black Joe Lake. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors fun things the Wind River Range has to offer. And that's not all you can do here at Black Joe Lake. Clear Lake Dam is picturesque and it's in the vicinity of Black Joe Lake, and Dickinson Creek Campground is a fine campground nearby. Summer at Black Joe Lake arrives with high temperatures in the 80's while nighttime lows are regularly in the 40's. Through the wintertime  
   highs are regularly in the 30's with winter lows in the 10's overnight here at Black Joe Lake.
If you came for an overnight stay Big Sandy Campground is a fine place to camp; since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always go to close by Deep Lake. This lake is so wonderful. The Ice Lakes Trail is a delightful hiking trail in the vicinity of Black Joe Lake, and Big Sandy Mountain is pretty and can be seen from here. On a delightful day at Black
 
               Joe Lake you can take a hike along the Big Sunday Trail; after a long day outdoors Rodeway Inn Pronghorn Lodge is a good spot to spend a night or two.
The Wind River Range scenery is always beautiful. Black Joe Lake gets very little precipitation; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain; December meanwhile is the driest month. Whohoo, so many entertaining things in one place! The Wind River Range is unbeatable! While you're here at Black Joe Lake you can take a hike along the Lizard Head Trail, and not far from Black Joe Lake you'll locate Clear Lake which is a pretty lake.

Lake seemed fishless although a beautiful lake. Was there 2 days and only saw 1 rise. Nice place to camp though as there is low traffic. Make sure you follow outlet to avoid massive rock pile....

I went up there 15 years ago and just got back from another week this last weekend....the fishing was much, much better in the past. I think the WY Game and Fish spends all their golden trout stocking funds on wolves now. The stocking ended the year the wolves were reintroduced.........Hmmm, isn't that interesting! Also....too many llamas and horses bringing the light-weights up the mountain to clutter the place this time....the trails looked like a lost group of Custard's cavalry must still be riding the trails. :( But the beauty of the area will always remain. Thank you, Lord, for your beautiful handiwork....

I was told by my Grandmother (Olive Bentley) that this lake was named for her father Gustave States, the owner of the Canyon Ranch. He had homesteaded Sinks Canyon and the surrounding area, where my grandmother remained until just prior to her death in 1976 at the age of 96....
