This lake is so wonderful. If you get bored of Lake Sherwood, you could also explore nearby Lake Sherwood; a quick spree to Dilley Run is positively a tremendous idea.

McClintic Point Primitive Campground
Great spot to settle into for a while. My little family camps there every year in june. Alot to do near the camp site. The best site is right on the lake, walk 15 feet to fish your heart out. Lots to do with the children.... Beautyful CLEAN swimming area and play ground just up the main road and showers available to clean them up at the end of the day. The best part about this site you can get the ''away from it all'' and still have access to a store, pay phone, and verry limited cell phone? service... enjoy!!? Mommy of 2 little 1s...

The Homestead
It's a big wide slope with some smaller slopes on the side. I like it, it's pretty....

Jackson River

I'm looking for a good two-night float on the Jackson, trout fishing along the way.  Should I look above or below the dam?  Thanks!  ...

Pike Pond
14 miles away
I must say that there is no type of camping facilities at Pike Pond! This is a POND not a lake, it is a place to fish. To get to the pond, you travel a short distance via a gravel road. I have lived in the Alleghany County area for over 25 years and have never heard of one person to camp or swim at this pond.Karnes Creek is for the most part a dry creek bed that does not support any type of fishing or swimmming. If you dare to do whitewater paddling on the Jackson River, please be advised that a large paper mill is located on this river. The water above this mill is wonderful, but BEWARE! Many people who own land along the river that is not considered polluted think that they own the river itself!!! These people do know that they do not own the water but feel that they own the land that the water passes over...if you decide to navigate this water way make sure you stay in your boat and not touch the river bed. The Buckhorne Family Campground is a wonderful place to stay. This campground is a great place to do family camping....

... or monthly rentals.

Also, the campground has five full hook-up RV sites (water/sewer/electric) for $26 per night, $156 per week, or $468 per month. Additionally, there are 10 water and electric RV sites for $21 per night, $126 per week, and $378 per month. Finally, there are nine tent sites (primitive that have a fire ring, picnic table, and trash container per site for $19 per night, $114 per week, and $342 per month.

The Buckhorne has hot showers at its bathhouse, and its store included The Amber Suzanne Salon, an ice cream parlor, and Bambi's Country Kitchen with seating for 10. High speed internet service is available at the campsites without charge. Campers from approximately 80% of the states and approximately six foreign countries are guests at the Buckhorne each year. Campers from 19 states and one foreign country have already stayed at the Buckhorne in 2009 as we approach the official kick-off of the camping season this Memorial Day weekend.

The Buckhorne has a Virginia designated trout stream that flows through the property, and campers can fish there ...

Snowshoe
22 miles away
Snowshoe has the biggest elevation drop of any skiresort in the region which in my oppinion makes it a realtively great ski resort. You can get more skiing done before you have to get on the lift again. Which I think is very important in a ski resort....
