Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Loop Creek, and you could always look at Durham Hollow. Do pop by Union Carbide Lake Number Three Dam since you're here at Horsehead Lake; the view of Beulah Knob is beautiful. This lake is so wonderful. Lots of folks from Oak Hill come to Horsehead Lake, and Horsehead Lake is nice enough to spend more than a day at, Fayetteville Mountain Laurel       is a nice local campground. Get your heart beating on the tremendous whitewater of Armstrong Creek, and a great close by hotel is Quality Inn New River. Life's too short to enjoy all the enjoyable things in the vicinity of Horsehead Lake. There's so much to do here at Horsehead Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Drift-a-bit white water is a great place for that, and the Way Back Trail is a good hiking trail nearby. The high level of rainfall makes Horsehead Lake a relatively wet place; the wettest month of the year is commonly July, that's the one that rains the most while February is generally the driest month. All through the days of summer here at Horsehead Lake, high temperatures regularly reach the 80's while overnight lows are ordinarily in the 60's.
