If you are in Clay county it's always a good idea to stop by Deerpond. Deerpond is a quite wet place mostly with a large amount of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is July, and the driest of the months is February. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Gauley River, and Deerpond is a place with many visitors from Oak Hill. This lake is so wonderful. | | North (Elkview) is a great place to spend a night or two. Nearby Durham Hollow is a perfect spot to go if you're at Deerpond, and why not a little side tour to Kuns Branch. This lake is so wonderful. Get your pulse rate up on the good whitewater of New River, and Drift-a-bit white water is a pleasant campground here. An interesting thing to go to close to Deerpond is Union Carbide Lake Number Two Dam, and you can stay the night at Fayetteville Mountain | |

Laurel. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Deerpond, and the night is a tad chillier of course, generally in the 60's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the
10's to Deerpond. This is no place for people who don’t like to have fun. Looking for something in the vicinity of Deerpond? Horsehead Lake is in the neighborhood, and if the weather is magnificent, you can go for a hike along the
Way Back Trail. The top of Beulah Knob is easily distinguished from Deerpond, and dry warm beds await you at Quality Inn New River.
