If you're interested in hydro structures, you can stop at Beech Fork Lake Dam; a lake nearby is Sky Lake. Beech Fork Lake regularly gets a lot of rain; the wettest month of the year is frequently July, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is January. This lake is so wonderful. Whitewater paddling is brilliant on Mud River, and after a long day outdoors Super 8 Motel - Huntington WV is a great spot to spend a night or two. Beech Fork

| | Lake in fact is in the middle of a pretty outdoors paradise. There are plenty of people from Huntington-Ashland here at Beech Fork Lake; for you golfers we recommend close by Lavalette Golf Club.
This lake is so wonderful. A tremendous spot to camp here at Beech Fork Lake is Cabwaylingo State Forest, and if you're here you can take a hike along the Beech Ridge Trail. Camping at Beech Fork State Park is always a pleasant experience, and if you need a place to stay | |

winter highs are in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Beech Fork Lake. Don't forget to take a fine little spree to Childers Branch, and if you get bored of Beech Fork Lake you could also visit nearby Twin Lakes.

East Lynn Lake
| My husband and I are both in our early 40's and have been married three years, starting new after twenty year previous marriages and two little girls of our own after raising five children between us. Growing up my I was an only child and my family did not take vacations and outdoor activities were laughed about by my parents. I always dreamed of these family outings all my life. Not until Darrell came into my life and introduced me to all I have missed, I am now just like our two daughters, enjoying outdoor life as a child does , and it is wonderful!!! We have camped several places in West Virginia, but when Darrell asks us where we want to camp, we all agree East Lynn is always our first choice. So, if your family is trying to decide where the best camping place in West Virginia would be, by all means, it is East Lynn!!! ... |
Mud River

This is an answer to Cindy's question about the Guyandotte River. There is a put-in at Branchland, then a take-out 3 1/2 hours downstream at Salt Rock. A very nice float with a few riffles, lots of fish and wildlife for viewing. You can also put-in or take-out at the mouth of Mud river in Barboursville which is good for a Mud River or Guyandotte River float. Salt Rock to B'ville would be a great all day float on the Guyandotte, I'm guessing 10 to 12 miles....There is no way there could be any rapids on the Mud River. I agree with the writer below. However, I would love to flatwater kayak down the Guyan which is closer to Beech Fork State Park than the Mud. It connects to the Mud in Barboursville and runs into the Ohio a few miles later. It should be a very plesant peaceful trip. I just can not locate a putin spot. Can any one help? I live 10 miles away from the BF campground. Thanks... |

Beech Ridge Trail

There are many challenging trails at Beech Fork State Park. One has it's trail head within the campground. Just inside Moxley Camp ground you will find the entrance to Lost Trail which leads to the Mary Davis Trail. The Mary Davis is also a Mountain Bikers Trail, and not for the faint of heart. The Mary Davis is 6.5 miles long and has beautiful lake views and gorgeous ridgetop vistas. Lost Trail is a figure 8 loop with some steep climbs. It is approx. 3 miles. Also an easy nature trail, a beginners trail which is fairly flat called Long Branch, and a magnificent trail above the campground and swimming pool called Overlook. Overlook is approx 1.5 to 2 miles long.... |
