The landing is very steep and hard to get back up in the winter but the fishing can be great if you find the right spot to fish. Lot of shacks out there becouse the Eauplane is so low. A lot of good fisherman having a good time on the ice. Halfmoon bar has great food and drinks next to the landing so stop in and say hi. ...Park in 2006. The tubing park is over 1500ft long with over 90ft of vertical drop. If has five chutes and numerous ''rollers'' that add lots of thrills for the riders approaching speeds of up to 40mph. The best part is tubers don't have to walk back to the top of the hill. There is a specially designed lift that tows riders back to the top of the hill while sitting in their tubes. With the addition of the park, Nordic Mountain has opened up winter recreation to everyone.
In addition to the tubing park, Nordic Mountain continues to undergo many changes and improvements-one of the biggest in snowmaking.
Nordic Mountain can make snow on 100% of its terrain including the tubing park. With the improvements in snowmaking technology, they can produce higher quality snow and do so in warmer temperatures. In the past few years Nordic Mountain has more than doubled its snowmaking capacity. The goal is to open earlier, close later, and remain open on marginal winter days. This is a 4-5 hour drive from the n/w side of Chicago . . . and *definately* worth it. Some buddies and I go up for a few days every winter and I have to say, this is the best you're going to find without doubling your driving time or hopping on an airplane....
