There's pleasant hiking along the Lauterman Trail. Lakes? Sure, Morgan Lake is in close proximity. If you're here at Wheeler Lake, you could visit Morgan Creek, and if you come at the right time of year, Popple River offers some pleasant whitewater. Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Pine River, and the skiing at Brule Mountain is tremendous. | | the night it cools down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 10's, and night lows at Wheeler Lake throughout the wintertime usually drop into the-10's.

An average amount of rainfall falls at Wheeler
Lake; August is the month that gets the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. If you came for an overnight stay Laura-Gordon Lakes Campground is a fine site to camp, and Best Western Crandon Inn & Suites is a great site to get some rest.

...ls area is its scenic beauty and heritage. The original emigrant settlers of the area during the middle 1800’s were attracted to its virgin forests and the rich mineral content of the ground. That untouched beauty remains only in a few unique areas left over from bygone days. Paint River Hills is truly one of those areas.
The highlight of Paint River Hills Campground is its hiking trail along the Paint River. The loop trail, about half-mile long, winds through and around the rock bluffs and hills that form the banks of the Paint River and for years has been the playground of local youngsters. The name “Paint River Hills” is the term used by locals to describe the location of the campground. Youngsters have named other areas such as Peeper Hollow, Big Rock Candy Mountain, White Pine Lookout, Fairy Tale Swamp, Rock Fort, Thistle Swamp and Camel Back Lookout.
