Savage Lake is a great lake in an area with lots of outdoors fun all around. Man, is there lots of entertaining stuff to do near Savage Lake. A quick trip to Haley Creek right next door to Savage Lake is a great idea. You'll need more than a day to discover everything Savage Lake has to offer, you can camp at Perch Lake Campground. | | much to do here at Savage Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Lauterman Lake Walk-In Campground is a pleasant site for that; you'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Brule Mountain if you're here. This lake is so wonderful. A delightful nearby hotel is Americinn - Iron River, Mi; you can run the rapids of Pine River. Dorothy Lake is a lake that's near Savage Lake. You're most likely into lakes, Mud Lake is one of those nearby, and a great location for whitewater paddling is Pine River. Savage Lake gets a typical amount of yearly rainfall;

The highlight of Paint River Hills Campground is its hiking trail along the Paint River. The loop trail, about half-mile long, winds through and around the rock bluffs and hills that form the banks of the Paint River and for years has been the playground of local youngsters. The name “Paint River Hills” is the term used by locals to describe the location of the campground. Youngsters have named other areas such as Peeper Hollow, Big Rock Candy Mountain, White Pine Lookout, Fairy Tale Swamp, Rock Fort, Thistle Swamp and Camel Back Lookout.
As the trail leads you to several lookouts down the river identification signs greet you naming trees in native Ojibwa as well as Latin and English. You will wind through an old white cedar stand and see rare quartz rock outcroppings.
