Little Elkhart Lake
17 miles away I am inquiring about Camp Anokijij. My father was one of the founder's of this camp for the YMCA in Racine, Wisconsin. He met my mother at this camp. This would have been in 1927 when the camp was first being built. I spent my summers as a young girl at Camp Anokijij - living in Squaw Village while my Dad, (Andy Andersen) was working at the camp. My three older brothers all attended the camp during the summers. I have many fond memories of this place. I worked there in 1958 as a senior staff counselor. I would be interested in visiting there for just a few hours during the week of June 16th - I am traveling in Wisconsin during that week. I understand that it is no longer a YMCA camp. I am curious as to who is now running Camp Anokijij. Interesting that they kept the same name. I still know the songs that we sang with Camp Anokijij in it. Sincerely, Kirsten Arthur...
Baird Creek
18 miles away I am the past president of the Baird Creek Preservation Foundation and I am also an experienced paddler. I comfortably do Class 4 water and I have done some Class 5. I am not sure if I would recommend that section of Baird Creek for anyone. There is only enough water during extreme flood situations. Most years there is no single flood event that would bring Baird Creek up to paddleable levels. There are a tremendous number of logs and entire trees across the creek. During flood situations the potential to get pinned against or under deadfalls would be very high....
Hidden Valley
23 miles away I haven't gone skiing here in years but I remember we used to have lots of winter fun here back in the old days....
