During the winter this place gets highs in the 20's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at Powell Lake temperatures plunge to the 0's. Duncan Creek is a glorious whitewater spot close to Powell Lake. Eau Claire - Days Inn West is a tremendous place to get some rest, and obviously Elk Creek flows through this area. A great location for whitewater paddling next to Powell Lake                  is Chippewa River, and you'll meet a lot of people from Menomonie here. This lake is so wonderful.
