Sure, Sneen Lake is nearby; Eau Claire - Days Inn West is a great spot to get some rest. A normal amount of precipitation falls here at Old Elk Lake; the month with most of the rain is June, and February meanwhile is the driest month. This lake is so wonderful. At Old Elk Lake you always meet someone from Menomonie, and since you might be in a lake visiting mood you can always check       out close by 65 Reservoir. Old Elk Lake is great enough to spend more than a day at, Menomonie Campground is a great local campground, and if you come at the right time of year, Red Cedar River offers some great whitewater. You feel that's enough? Just getting warmed up. Whitewater paddling is not for everyone but if it's for you then we recommend Chippewa River. Summertime highs at Old Elk Lake regularly tend to be in the 80's. Through the dark hours of                  summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 20's, and nighttime lows at Old Elk Lake throughout the winter ordinarily descend into the 0's.
