What a nice lake O'Leary Lake is. A lake close by is Switzer Lake, and nearby you stumble on Boatyard Hollow which is a fine place to check out. O'Leary Lake is a good place of typical precipitation; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and January is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. You'll never forgive yourself if you don’t go skiing at Chestnut Mountain while you're here, and glide down the rapids of Little Platte River in
   a kayak.
You'll need more than a day to discover everything O'Leary Lake has to offer, you can camp at Rustic Barn Campground, and why not spend some time golfing at a close by golf course like Bunker Hill Golf Course. And that's not all you can do here at O'Leary Lake. What would winter be without some skiing at Sundown Mountain; Hotel Julien Dubuque is a perfect location to get some rest.
You don’t have to go far from O'Leary Lake to see the water at

Mississippi River Lock Dam Number Eleven; the good people of Dubuque like to hang out nearby. Stay the night at Dubuque Yacht Basin and RV Park; naturally Sinnipee Creek is a picturesque stream that is worth visiting. This lake is so wonderful. If you need a place to stay Holiday Inn Dubuque, Ia is a good choice, and O'Leary Lake is not the only spot close by, Frentress Lake is a close by lake.

Mud Lake
Hi, Could you please tell me if you are having a BlueGrass Festival this year and if so the Date and Time of it....

Little Platte River
13 miles away
We were two stupid college kids using makeshift paddles and $10 rubber rafts trying to go from Old Lancaster road to County D. I have been canoeing lots on lakes and I would say it would be very difficult to make much progress on this stream. There are a lot of small rapids with low rocks. There were parts that were only a few inches deep. We were lucky a lot because our rubber rafts only sit a few inches into the water, but I would think a canoe or kayak might cause problems. Also watch out for a barb wire stretching across about .5 above county D. If you don't mind carrying your canoe a lot, this stream is fairly gentle. There are some pretty rock walls too. I would not recommend this stream in the dry season though....

Leisure Lake
18 miles away
Leisure Lake just received a bunch of rainfall recently and the lake is really full.  It is still a couple feet down from what it use to be but now is a good time to go there and look how full the lake can actually get.  Also Labor Day weekend at Leisure Lake is very fun because it draws tons of people there.  There will also be a DJ there Labor Day weekend so if your interested stop on out....Leisure Lake is still an awesome place in 2009!!...Leisure Lake is a beautiful place to hang out on weekends and drive around to get the great view of the lake.  The lake has a bar located when coming into Leisure from the highway.  Woody lives at the lake and many people that go to bars know him and he is my uncle and a really good guy.  If your ever at the lake look around for Woody and get to know him....

Chestnut Mountain
19 miles away
I learned to ski at Chestnut Mountain, it's really good to go and learn at a local place like this before you go to the Rockies, so you don't waste time on the bunny slope over there....
