Whitewater paddling is glorious on Thunder River. High temperatures at Murphy Lake all through the warm months are in the 80's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 20's, and night lows at Murphy Lake through the wintertime generally fall into the 0's. A great nearby hotel is Country       Inn & Suites By Carlson, Iron Mountain, MI, and you can stay the night at Marty and June Katzka. Parkway Golf Course is a nice golf course nearby, and if you need a place to stay Best Western Crivitz Lodge is a great choice. This lake is so wonderful. You'll hit upon a picturesque lake called House Lake near Murphy Lake. There's so much to do here at Murphy Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Timberline Resort and Campground is a great spot for that.                  If you don't mind getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Peshtigo River; there's some out of the ordinary stuff to see at Marsh Lake Dam close to Murphy Lake.
