Many people like to go to Luecks Lake. At Luecks Lake through the long summer days highs are in the 70's while nighttime lows are commonly in the 50's. Highs throughout the winter are mostly in the 10's while the cold winter nights at Luecks Lake are in the-10's. This lake is so wonderful. Luecks Lake is a good site of normal rainfall; through September this area sees the most rain, and February on the other hand is the driest. Stay the night at Sure-wood Forest Campground, and after a long day outdoors Pine Ridge Inn is a great site to spend a night or two. This is a 4-5 hour drive from the n/w side of Chicago . . . and *definately* worth it. Some buddies and I go up for a few days every winter and I have to say, this is the best you're going to find without doubling your driving time or hopping on an airplane....
