Why not stop by Lauterman Lake if you're passing through these parts. Americinn - Iron River, Mi is a good place to get some rest, and the skiing at Brule Mountain is good. Through the warmest time of the year highs here at Lauterman Lake reach the 70's. Summer nighttime lows dip down to the 50's. Lauterman Trail offers hiking at its best.
Glide down the rapids of Pine River in a kayak; a lake close by is Silverdollar Lake. From a precipitation point of view Lauterman Lake is a relatively normal location; most of the rain
falls through August; February on the other hand is the driest. You'll meet a lot of people from Iron Mountain here, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Dendro Eco Trail.

...e rich mineral content of the ground. That untouched beauty remains only in a few unique areas left over from bygone days. Paint River Hills is truly one of those areas.
The highlight of Paint River Hills Campground is its hiking trail along the Paint River. The loop trail, about half-mile long, winds through and around the rock bluffs and hills that form the banks of the Paint River and for years has been the playground of local youngsters. The name “Paint River Hills” is the term used by locals to describe the location of the campground. Youngsters have named other areas such as Peeper Hollow, Big Rock Candy Mountain, White Pine Lookout, Fairy Tale Swamp, Rock Fort, Thistle Swamp and Camel Back Lookout.
As the trail leads you to several lookouts down the river identification signs greet you naming trees in native Ojibwa as well as Latin and English. You will wind through an old white cedar stand and see rare quartz rock outcroppings. You will have an opportunity to see abundant wildlife, which considers this area along the Paint River its sanctuary, and hear the sound... |
