     There are some great whitewater spots on Prairie River; if you need a spot to stay Pine Ridge Inn is a tremendous choice. The amount of rain that falls at Horseshoe Lake is close to the national average; the month with most of the rain is September while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. This lake is so wonderful. Americinn - Merrill, Wi is a good place to get some rest; Horseshoe Lake is not the only location nearby, Horn Lake is  
   a nearby lake. You just should like Horseshoe Lake. There are plenty of people from Merrill here at Horseshoe Lake. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Horseshoe Lake has to offer, you can camp at Birkensee Resort.
At Horseshoe Lake all through the summertime highs are in the 70's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 10's with winter lows in the-10's overnight here at Horseshoe Lake. There's
 
               so much to do here at Horseshoe Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Council Grounds State Park is a great spot for that; you can never get enough of the nice skiing at Granite Peak.
There's whitewater on Pine River for all you thrill seekers, and if you've had enough of Horseshoe Lake, Thompson Lake is nearby.

This is a 4-5 hour drive from the n/w side of Chicago . . . and *definately* worth it. Some buddies and I go up for a few days every winter and I have to say, this is the best you're going to find without doubling your driving time or hopping on an airplane....

For the Midwest only Lutsen in Minn. can be compared!
The vertical keeps you challenged unlike the resorts in the U.P. and the rest of the Midwest! Only 3 hrs from Milwaukee!!!
love it if you are in the Midwest and can't head WEST!!!...
