the neighborhood of Gerbick Lake and is always a pleasure to check out.
Gerbick Lake gets a typical amount of yearly precipitation; August is the month that gets the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
Prairie River has a tremendous whitewater paddling spot close by, and if you're stopping by from Merrill, you won't be the only one.

This is a 4-5 hour drive from the n/w side of Chicago . . . and *definately* worth it. Some buddies and I go up for a few days every winter and I have to say, this is the best you're going to find without doubling your driving time or hopping on an airplane....
