Whitewater paddling is magnificent on Pine River, and East Lake is a fine location to visit for more than one day, Rivers Bend Campground is a fine location to camp nearby. This lake is so wonderful. People from Iron Mountain love to come to East Lake, and if you're here, you could also pop by charming South Lake. A great close by hotel is Budget Host Inn Iron Mountain; hey, Gotta ski right? Campgrounds. This lake is so wonderful.
Throughout the days of summer here at East Lake, high temperatures commonly reach the 70's; through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. All through the winter highs are in the 20's,
and after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at East Lake descend into the-10's. East Lake gets a typical amount of yearly rain; the month with most of the rain is June, and February is the month with the least moisture.

Paint River

I just took a 30 mile trip down this river with a group of 6 and three canoes. I thought it was great overall. There are a few shallow spots where we had to get out of the boat and pull it through the water but otherwise the depth is good. As far as the quote ''pretty good campgrounds'' go, these were not easily found but can be set up in the less dense forests alongside the water. The stretch over the hemlock rapids is a bit difficult on the lower hemlock but the upper is an exciting though slightly wet ride. The overall current throughout the river is not too fast so some paddling is needed. Thats about it, this is a great river. The scenery is beautiful, and if your staying overnight the stars are miraculous, so enjoy the view. If your in the trees alot watch out for ticks, (they found me well) but other than that, enjoy the ride.... |
