Hiking is a popular thing to do around Dorothy Lake; Dendro Eco Trail is a nice local trail, and Ski Brule is a very popular ski area in close proximity. Haley Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth going to, and if you need a spot to stay Americinn - Iron River, Mi is a fine choice. This lake is so wonderful. The amount of precipitation that falls at Dorothy Lake is close to the national average; the wettest month of the year is usually August, that's the one that rains the most, and February is when it's the driest. All through the summer highs here at Dorothy Lake get into the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the
50's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 10's, and after the sun is down throughout the winter temperatures at Dorothy Lake sink into the-10's. Any time is a perfect time at Dorothy Lake if you go for the
outdoors. You can run the rapids of Pine River near Dorothy Lake, and the best way to spend a winter day is on the slopes of nearby Brule Mountain.

The highlight of Paint River Hills Campground is its hiking trail along the Paint River. The loop trail, about half-mile long, winds through and around the rock bluffs and hills that form the banks of the Paint River and for years has been the playground of local youngsters. The name “Paint River Hills” is the term used by locals to describe the location of the campground. Youngsters have named other areas such as Peeper Hollow, Big Rock Candy Mountain, White Pine Lookout, Fairy Tale Swamp, Rock Fort, Thistle Swamp and Camel Back Lookout.
As the trail leads you to several lookouts down the river identification signs greet you naming trees in native Ojibwa as well as Latin and English. You will wind through an old white cedar stand and see rare quartz rock outcroppings. You will have an opportunity to see abundant wildlife, which considers this area along the Paint River its sanctuary, and hear the sound of the Paint River as it winds its way downstream to Ho... |
