The snow is tremendous at Brule Mountain. There's so much to do here at Cruiser Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Lauterman Lake Walk-In Campground is a nice place for that. A lake close by is Riley Lake, and you'll probably meet some folks from Iron Mountain here. Throughout the summer here at Cruiser Lake, high temperatures mostly reach the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 10's

Head up to Ski Brule and strap some skis to your feet, and if you're here you can take a hike along the Dendro Eco Trail. The highlight of Paint River Hills Campground is its hiking trail along the Paint River. The loop trail, about half-mile long, winds through and around the rock bluffs and hills that form the banks of the Paint River and for years has been the playground of local youngsters. The name “Paint River Hills” is the term used by locals to describe the location of the campground. Youngsters have named other areas such as Peeper Hollow, Big Rock Candy Mountain, White Pine Lookout, Fairy Tale Swamp, Rock Fort, Thistle Swamp and Camel Back Lookout.
As the trail leads you to several lookouts down the river identification signs greet you naming trees in native Ojibwa as well as Latin and English. You will wind through an old white cedar stand and see rare quartz rock outcroppings. You will have an opportunity to see abundant wildlife, which considers this area along the Paint River... |
