     The skiing at Granite Peak is great, and while you're here, you could also stop by beautiful Lokemoen Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Good hiking is available along the Bearskin State Park Trail, and if you need a site to stay Pine Ridge Inn is a great choice. There are some glorious whitewater spots on Pine River. The smiling people of Merrill like to hang out nearby, and a magnificent spot to camp here at Copper Lake is Sure-wood Forest Campground.

   Lake gets a normal amount of precipitation; September is the month that gets the most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. At Copper Lake all through the warmest time of the year highs are in the 70's, and the nighttime is somewhat cooler of course, mostly in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 10's, and nighttime lows in the-10's for Copper Lake. Henson Lake is a nearby lake that you could pop by, and Americinn  
               - Merrill, Wi is a great location to get some rest.
Any time is a great time at Copper Lake if you like the outdoors. If you come at the right time of year, Prairie River offers some good whitewater, and Copper Lake is magnificent enough to spend more than a day at, Birkensee Resort is a magnificent local campground.

This is a 4-5 hour drive from the n/w side of Chicago . . . and *definately* worth it. Some buddies and I go up for a few days every winter and I have to say, this is the best you're going to find without doubling your driving time or hopping on an airplane....
i have lived and snowboarded in Colorado and Austria.
For the Midwest only Lutsen in Minn. can be compared!
The vertical keeps you challenged unlike the resorts in the U.P. and the rest of the Midwest! Only 3 hrs from Milwaukee!!!
love it if you are in the Midwest and can't head WEST!!!...
