Camp Thirteen Lake is a magnificent place to visit for more than one day, Lauterman Lake Walk-In Campground is a magnificent place to camp nearby, and if you're here, you could also take a look at beautiful Whisker Lake. This lake is so wonderful. Paddling on Pine River is so much fun, and there is a tremendous hiking trail close by called the Dendro Eco Trail. Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Camp Thirteen Lake while overnight lows are frequently in

The highlight of Paint River Hills Campground is its hiking trail along the Paint River. The loop trail, about half-mile long, winds through and around the rock bluffs and hills that form the banks of the Paint River and for years has been the playground of local youngsters. The name “Paint River Hills” is the term used by locals to describe the location of the campground. Youngsters have named other areas such as Peeper Hollow, Big Rock Candy Mountain, White Pine Lookout, Fairy Tale Swamp, Rock Fort, Thistle Swamp and Camel Back Lookout.
As the trail leads you to several lookouts down the river identification signs greet you naming trees in native Ojibwa as well as Latin and English.
