Turtle River has a pleasant whitewater paddling spot nearby, and Days Inn Hurley is a perfect site to get some rest. High temperatures at Altman Lake through the summer are in the 70's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. High temperatures all through the winter are normally in the 10's, and       all through the dark hours in the wintertime at Altman Lake temperatures fall to the-10's. If you don't mind getting dripping wet, you can always go whitewater paddling on Flambeau River - North Fork; you'll hit upon a beautiful lake called Fox Lake. But wait, there's more to do near Altman Lake. A swamp like Realty Lake near Altman Lake has lots of exciting things to see; after a long day outdoors Budget Host Cloverland Motel Ironwood is a brilliant site                  to spend a night or two. This lake is so wonderful. Head up to Whitecap Mountain and strap some skis to your feet. From a precipitation point of view Altman Lake is a relatively typical spot; the wettest month of the year is typically August, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month of the year is February. Hiking along the Newman Springs Ski Trail is wonderful fun, and why not take a little trip to Drinkwine Creek if you're here. This lake is so wonderful.
