     Get soaked paddling on Pine River, and why not take a refreshing hike along the Bearskin State Park Trail. This is no place for people who don’t like to have fun. Allen Lake is not far at all from Merrill, and great skiing awaits you at Granite Peak. From a rain point of view Allen Lake is a rather common place; most of the rain falls during September, and the driest month of the year is February. A wonderful nearby hotel is Americinn - Merrill, Wi.

   lake is so wonderful. If you need a location to stay Pine Ridge Inn is a nice choice; you can stay the night at Birkensee Resort. For the duration of the months of summer here at Allen Lake, high temperatures frequently get into the 70's; during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 10's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Allen Lake sink into the-10's. Whitewater paddling is good on Prairie  
               River; you'll stumble on a gorgeous lake called Luecks Lake.
While you're here at Allen Lake, you could also pop by delightful Wedlers Pond. You'll need more than a day to explore everything Allen Lake has to offer, you can camp at Northforest Campgrounds.

This is a 4-5 hour drive from the n/w side of Chicago . . . and *definately* worth it. Some buddies and I go up for a few days every winter and I have to say, this is the best you're going to find without doubling your driving time or hopping on an airplane....
i have lived and snowboarded in Colorado and Austria.
For the Midwest only Lutsen in Minn. can be compared!
The vertical keeps you challenged unlike the resorts in the U.P. and the rest of the Midwest! Only 3 hrs from Milwaukee!!!
love it if you are in the Midwest and can't head WEST!!!...
