Many people like to go to 2780 Reservoir. High temperatures at 2780 Reservoir through the summer months are in the 70's with nighttime lows in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 10's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at 2780 Reservoir temperatures fall to the-10's. This lake is so wonderful. Stay the night at Rib Mountain State Park. A brilliant close by hotel is Americinn - Merrill, Wi, and don't forget to take a good little visit to Devil Creek.

| | If you need a location to stay Merrill Super 8 Motel is a fine choice, also Ward Paper Mill Dam is worth checking out since you're here. From a rain point of view 2780 Reservoir is a quite normal site; all through September this area sees the most rain, and February is when it's the driest. Prairie River is a wonderful whitewater spot in the vicinity of 2780 Reservoir; a day on the slopes of Granite Peak is just what you need.

you'll meet some people from Merrill for sure; Ward Millpond 209 is a great lake nearby. This lake is so wonderful. You can run the rapids of Pine River close to 2780 Reservoir, and if you're a golfer then a brilliant nearby course
is Merrill Public Golf Club. What a place this is for outdoors folks. 2780 Reservoir is a good place to visit for more than one day, Council Grounds State Park is a good place to camp nearby, and a stunning lake like Ward Mill Pond is a great site to go to.

This is a 4-5 hour drive from the n/w side of Chicago . . . and *definately* worth it. Some buddies and I go up for a few days every winter and I have to say, this is the best you're going to find without doubling your driving time or hopping on an airplane....

The landing is very steep and hard to get back up in the winter but the fishing can be great if you find the right spot to fish. Lot of shacks out there becouse the Eauplane is so low. A lot of good fisherman having a good time on the ice. Halfmoon bar has great food and drinks next to the landing so stop in and say hi. Bring the gang and your gear and we will see ya at Halfmoon.... |
