Whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then we recommend Spokane River. There's so much to do here at Woods Lake that you need to camp here for a while, Clear Lake Pines is a fine site for that. For the duration of the days of summer here at Woods Lake, high temperatures mostly get into the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's, and nighttime lows in the 10's

| | for Woods Lake. Solar World Estates West is a great spot to get some rest. Do stop by Horseshoe Lake close to Woods Lake, it's a scenic lake, and after a long day outdoors Days Inn and Suites Airway Heights/Spokane Airport is a wonderful site to spend a night or two. Woods Lake is pretty dried out usually; the month of December is the wettest with most of the snow, and August is when it's the driest. This lake is so wonderful. Stay the night at Willow Bay Resort; if you're here, you could also stop by pretty Davis Lake. | |

Willow Lake
 | 12 miles away Do not swim in Willow lake. Willow lake is an acidic cesspool that fish can't even live in. The water corodes the steel parts on our model boats that we sometimes run there. The water, if you are brave enough tastes like battery acid.... |

Fish Lake
 | 19 miles away Fishing at Queen Lucas Lake is trespassing on railroad property, isn't it? It is right in between two railroads? Tell me is it open to the public? wstorer@hotmail.com...$2 entry for over 6 years. Small lake with swimming beach and dock. Picnic tables and newer playground. Nice grassy patches to lounge in the shade. 12 miles from down town Spokane, great little get away for a summer day. Can rent paddle boats. Drawbacks: This is a very small recreational facility, so can get crowded on holidays. The playground is separated from swimming area, so can't watch children at playground from your 'beach camp', limited number of picnic tables. Otherwise great value for the money!... |

After the completion of the two story Chewelah Mountain Lodge in 1950 and installation of a double chair lift in 1951, the area experienced an increased volume of recreational users and tourists. Over a period of years, obsolescence of the lift and lack of revenue due to a gradual decline in the condition of the facilities, culminating in closure in early 1968. On May 6, 1970, the Chewelah Basin Ski Corporation was formed and submitted a bid to develop and operate a ski resort in a basin approximately two miles east of the old area. Development commenced in late 1970 and continued during the summers of 1971 and 1972. Construction of three lifts, runs and a day lodge was completed and the area first operated for public use in late 1972. In 1976, the U.S. Forest Service approved a master plan allowing for continued upgrading and expansion within the existing Special Use Permit. A fourth lift was added in 1980 and new runs to support the lift have continued to attract an increasing number of visitors. In June of 1996 Chewelah Basin Ski Corporation was sold to the... |
